When Michelle contacted me about photographing their wedding in Mexico, I was beyond excited. I'd actually never been out of the USA, besides cutting through Canada to get to New York, and it was a dream come true to leave the country and be a part of their dream wedding.
The wedding was at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort where most of us stayed. Instead of paving the jungle to build the resort, they built the resort into the jungle. We had jungle right outside our little balcony, and in the morning monkeys would swing from the trees and take bananas right out of your hand (or out of your room if you left the sliding door unlocked). It was incredible and totally surreal, and so was Kris and Michelle's wedding.
They had friends and family come from all over the world to help them tie the knot; Germany, Australia, Canada (where Michelle is from), Michigan, and probably more locations that I've forgotten.
When you meet Kris & Michelle, they just make sense together. They're both intelligent, strong, independent, super goofy personalities that compliment each other perfectly. Since we were all staying on the same resort, I got the rare opportunity to not only connect with the bride and groom but to really get to know their people. You could see how excited everyone was for them, which made the whole day feel even sweeter.
Have I ever mentioned how emotional I get at the weddings I shoot? Every dang time. I can't help it, if you're crying I'm crying. Sometimes even if you're not crying I'm crying. I just can't deal with all the sweetness.
One of my favorite moments of the day, when Michelle's best friend took a good look at Michelle in her wedding dress and everyone took a ride on the tear train.
The dang cutest sisters
Kris and Michelle, thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me be part of your day and for getting married in MEXICO. Here's to a lifetime of beautiful adventures together.
